Monument Colour is a good match for the dual black shingles. The drip edge protects the plywood from water. This chalk line positions the drip edge correctly. When joining the drip edge, we have a 100mm overlap.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>TIP \u201cDon&#8217;t nail through two layers of metal as it will creak and pop as the metal expands in the heat.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2301\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2301\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2301\" src=\"https:\/\/roofshingles.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Asphalt-saturated-felt-paper-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"Asphalt-Saturated Felt Paper\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/roofshingles.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Asphalt-saturated-felt-paper-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/roofshingles.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Asphalt-saturated-felt-paper-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/roofshingles.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Asphalt-saturated-felt-paper.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2301\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Asphalt-Saturated Felt Paper covers the plywood.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We use Stormtite synthetic roof underlay to cover the plywood.\u00a0 We supply enough synthetic roof underlay to cover the roof with extra for waste and overlaps.\u00a0\u00a0The synthetic roof underlay gives the system a Class-A fire rating &#8211; providing &#8220;severe exposure to fire&#8221;.\u00a0 The underlay also serves to protect the plywood from several toxins that can be released from the ply.\u00a0 Synthetic underlay reduces the visible outlines seen when the plywood is not installed flat.<\/p>\n<p>The Stormtite synthetic roof underlay is laid horizontally across the roof.\u00a0 The bottom of the synthetic underlay is placed in line with the bottom of the plywood. When joining the synthetic underlay on the vertical joints, we use a 100mm overlap, 50mm on the horizontal. This starter course is covered up as the first full shingle is installed over the top.
